Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration & Ongoing Plant Management

Key Project Assistance

> Weekly inspections across critical refrigeration and supporting plant
> Monthly servicing of industrial ammonia refrigeration and glycol systems per site
> Blast freezing tunnel support (approx. 11,000-carton capacity)
> Compliance-focused reporting with detailed FSRs for traceability
> Three-monthly office AC servicing + annual IQP sign-off (registered IQP)
> Annual rebuilds on industrial screw compressors
> Shutdown planning and delivery within a tight two-week winter window
> 24/7 call-out and remote access for rapid diagnosis and reduced downtime
> Coordination of specialist subcontractors during upgrades and pump-outs

Our scope includes weekly plant inspections to ensure optimal performance across freezers, chillers, glycol systems, cooling towers, water treatment systems, compressor controllers, and ice-making equipment. These checks are essential to maintaining uptime and food safety across continuous operations.
On a monthly basis, Prime Thermal services the main refrigeration plants, which hold several tonnes of ammonia per site glycol systems in production areas and large blast carton tunnels, capable of holding approximately 11,000 meat cartons. Detailed field service reports (FSRs) are completed for compliance and traceability.

We also carry out three-monthly servicing of office air-conditioning systems, including annual IQP sign-off to meet council compliance requirements. Prime Thermal has independent qualified individuals who are registered IQP, ensuring seamless certification for building warrant of fitness (BWoF)
Ammonia refrigeration is a high-risk, highly specialised discipline requiring advanced training and experience. Prime Thermal’s technicians are qualified to work on ammonia systems and have experience gained both locally and internationally.

Annually, we undertake compressor rebuilds on large Frick screw compressors, each weighing between 1,600–1,900kg, as well as commissioning new plant as upgrades occur. This includes managing ammonia pump-outs, coordinating specialist subcontractors (welders, pipe insulators), and integrating new or replacement plant. Documentation, including isolation certificates, pressure test reports, toolbox meetings & safe work method statements (SWMS) are all provided as a record.

Greenlea’s sites operate year-round, with only a two-week winter shutdown for major maintenance. Prime Thermal works closely with the Greenlea team to plan and execute all works within this narrow window, minimising disruption and ensuring systems return to service smoothly.

To further support continuity, Prime Thermal provides 24/7 call-out availability and remote access to the refrigeration control systems. This allows our team to log in, diagnose issues, and often restore operation without needing to be onsite — a critical advantage for production environments.
